Ego vs true intuition.
How can we tell the difference between our inner guidance, true intuition and the voice of the ego, or wishful thinking?
APPLE TREE ANSWER:
True inner guidance has a different effect on the body-mind. The false causes some degree of the feeling of contraction. Truth opens the body-mind. The ultimate truth is silent, openness.
Focus on your thoughts. Notice that thoughts stream. They flow. They are thought-streams.
Some thought-streams are helpful, others are random and unhelpful. Some thought-streams trigger emotions, others drift through awareness like gentle clouds, hardly noticeable.
Thoughts arise from anything that you are tuned in to. If you are not conscious of this, you will be tuned in without conscious choice. The most demanding feelings and needs of the body-mind will therefore determine what you are tuned in to. These are usually survival demands. Just as the loudest noise in the room demands attention as a survival instinct, most are living tuned in to the most demanding loudest aspects of their personalities, minds and body senses.
Would you like to live tuned in to survival FM, or wisdom FM?
What you are tuned into determines what your body-mind state is. If you are tuned into fear, your body-mind will experience a contracting feeling, along with physical responses to fear.
If you are tuned in to peace, thoughts will stream from peace. If you are tuned in to the ego, to the false self, thoughts will stream from the false self.
When seeking inner guidance, you can see why it’s so important to be conscious about what you are tuned into. Would you rather follow thoughts from fear or thoughts from peace? Ego or wisdom—the choice is always available, but very few take this offer of grace.
To tell the difference between thoughts that arise from the false self or ego, vs thoughts from true inner guidance look for the response in the body.
When you focus on a thought that is not true, that arises from confusion, ignorance or the false self, the body experiences a contraction, some describe this as heaviness.
When you focus on a thought that is true, that arises from clarity, truth or the knowing of the true self, the body experiences an opening, some describe this as lightness.
To notice these subtle or obvious changes in the body-mind you need to move attention to the body. The body is a very helpful instrument, it belongs to the natural world and therefore is wired to the natural rhythms of life. Let the body assist you in learning to tune-in to truth.
QUESTION: “How do I use my true intuition to find intuitive guidance about what to do? How can I tell if my ego or wishful thinking is telling me what to do?”
APPLE TREE ANSWER:
When a river spring bubbles up from the top of a mountain, it doesn’t stop to wonder, “Which way is the right way?” It flows and the strength of the flow allows it to overcome any obstacle.
You have a natural flow, an intuitively directed movement that if free flows in each moment, moment-by-moment. When your body-mind is in flow, you know what to say and do without inner conflict, without trying, pushing or pulling. There is an openness and a meeting of life in an intuitive, spontaneous way.
The mind stops your natural flow.
The mind, when filled with ignorance, stops your natural intuitive flow.
Your true self doesn’t ask, “What is the right way?” Only the false self produces these thoughts. Only the false self is afraid of a “wrong way” and what it means by wrong is filled with emotional or physical pain. The mind is looking for a pain-free path, that’s what it means by “right.”
The river doesn’t look down the mountain for an obstacle free path, there is no such thing. In life, there is no such thing as a pain-free life path. The river faces its obstacles and relies on the strength of its flow to go around the obstacles.
In life when the mind holds back your flow, it’s hard to overcome obstacles. The mind turns the strong river into a trickle. What increases your flow is to tune in to truth. Truth opens. And in the gift of openness life can flow intuitively.
When you tune in to truth you can meet life’s obstacles with grace, wisdom and peace.
